Sarah M. Holshauser
As an adolescent and family coach my goal is to help young people discover more moments of confidence and peace within themselves. In my past work with families in residential, in-home, and community-based therapy settings I’ve seen how vital it is to understand and express our unique needs in order to be seen, appreciated, and validated. This personal awareness leads to stronger family equilibriums. As a coach and mentor, I aim to inspire, support and direct through connection, creativity, and compassion. I value giving young people the nudge they need to step outside of their own comfort zone and explore their full potential.
My clinical style is relational, connective, and direct. I tend to use humor to connect and build rapport and approach each and every relationship I form with my clients from a firm belief that we are all doing the very best we can with the resources we have. I take a person-centered approach and draw from theories of neurobiology, solutions focused therapy, internal family systems, and cognitive behavioral therapy to help my clients better understand themselves and interact with the world around them in a way that generates more success.

During her Master’s Degree at Simmons University School of Social Work, Sarah discovered wilderness therapy and applied to an internship program at a wilderness therapy program in NC. Through a passion for supporting others and a love of the outdoors, Sarah developed an immediate connection with the innovative approach wilderness offers young people and families whose needs are not met by more “conventional” therapeutic modalities. After obtaining her LCSWA, Sarah became a wilderness therapist and honed her specialization in working with neurodivergent teens and their families. After several years (and a pandemic) in wilderness therapy, Sarah joined the Elevate Family team to offer continuing support to families in the next leg of their journey together.
Sarah uses a relational approach to help clients explore communication patterns within family systems, relationship dynamics, and internal dialogue; these areas of focus are apparent throughout her approach.
In her free time, Sarah enjoys being outside hiking, running, and exploring with her family as well as reading, learning, and challenging herself with something new. Sarah loves to travel and is known to make an adventure possible at any destination.
Sarah began her career as an entrepreneur, opening a grocery store and café and managing a farmer’s market following her graduation from Franklin & Marshall College with a BA in Economics and Environment Studies. Her entrepreneurial spirit led her on to manage a social purpose enterprise helping refugee women from Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Iraq, and Nepal with employment and job training.
