Mentoring & Sibling Support
I began working in the mental health field in 2012 and have worked in clinical and educational settings with children and adults ever since. Through positions as camp counselor, tutor, paraprofessional, and Director of Logistics at a therapeutic program for several years, I learned the value of meeting clients and kids where they are at and discovering underlying needs.
I believe in the value of fostering kids' strengths and the impact of family support and health on the overall growth and wellbeing of a young person. My desire as Program Manager and a mentor with Elevate Family is to help empower families in their development of deeper connection.
Originally from midstate New York in the Catskill mountains, the impact of time spent outside always felt integral to Serena’s interests in the mental health field. During her undergraduate degree in Psychology, Serena held various positions tutoring fellow students, serving as a teaching assistant for several courses, and interning at a substance abuse recovery center.
Afterward, she relocated to Oklahoma, New Jersey, and eventually, Western North Carolina, working in various positions with youth, including camp counselor, substitute teacher, and paraprofessional. She settled into the mountains near Asheville, NC, where she accepted a position as a logistics coordinator at a therapeutic organization.
Serena was amazed by the savviness of the organization's staff and inspired by the growth of the youth and adolescents in the program. She was promoted to Logistics Manager then Logistics Director, where she would exercise skills in leadership, operations, and coordination. She spent some of her free time as a research assistant and hosted a poster presentation at the APA Conference in 2019 on the relationship between family functioning and symptoms of anxiety and depression in youth.
Serena also worked as a Youth Trauma Informed Coach at an organization for victims of domestic violence before transitioning to Program Manager at Elevate Family, where she works in program administration, admissions, operations, and mentoring. Outside of work, Serena loves to run, hike with her dog, kayak, climb, adventure, cook, do art, read, and listen to music.
